Aluminium 2014 forgings are primarily made up of aluminium (around 90%), with copper (3.9–5%) being the key alloying element, along with smaller amounts of magnesium and manganese. This heat-treatable alloy is known for its high strength and good fatigue resistance, although it does have moderate corrosion resistance. Typical mechanical properties include tensile strength ranging from 400 to 480 MPa, yield strength of about 270 MPa, and elongation between 8–12%, depending on the temper. While Aluminium 2014 forgings are quite machinable, they do require protective coatings to enhance their corrosion resistance.
