Aluminium 5082 forgings are primarily made of aluminium with magnesium (4.0–4.9%) and trace amounts of manganese (0.4–1.0%) and chromium (0.15–0.35%). This alloy, which isn’t heat-treatable, boasts excellent resistance to seawater and industrial chemicals, along with good weldability and moderate-to-high strength. Typically, the mechanical properties include a tensile strength ranging from 230 to 290 MPa, a yield strength of about 130 MPa, and an elongation of 10–18%, depending on the temper. Aluminium 5082 forgings also exhibit great formability and fatigue resistance, making them perfect for structural and corrosion-critical applications.

Aluminum 5082 offers high strength, excellent corrosion resistance, good weldability, and enhanced fatigue resistance, making it ideal for custom forgings in marine, aerospace, and structural applications.
The forging process for Aluminium 5082 typically takes between 2 to 6 hours, depending on the complexity of the part, size, and the specific forging method used.
Aluminum 5082's workability, characterized by good machinability and medium strength, allows for easy shaping during forging. However, its relatively low work hardening rate may require careful temperature control.
In marine settings, Aluminium 5082 forgings are commonly used for hulls, decks, and superstructures due to their exceptional resistance to saltwater corrosion. They also find applications in the automotive and transportation sectors for fuel tanks, truck bodies, and trailers, where durability and weight savings are crucial. Furthermore, this alloy is utilized in chemical processing equipment, storage tanks, and pressure vessels that come into contact with corrosive substances. The blend of strength, corrosion resistance, and weldability makes Aluminium 5082 forgings the go-to choice for applications that demand reliability and longevity in harsh conditions.
