Aluminium 7050 is a high-strength, heat-treatable alloy primarily made of aluminium, with notable amounts of zinc (5.7–6.7%), magnesium (1.9–2.6%), and copper (2.0–2.6%). It boasts exceptional mechanical properties, particularly in heavy cross-sections, and shows remarkable resistance to stress corrosion cracking. In the T7451 temper, it can achieve a tensile strength of up to 510 MPa and a yield strength of around 455 MPa, all while maintaining good fracture toughness. Additionally, Aluminium 7050 offers solid fatigue resistance, making it perfect for dynamic loads. While it may not be as weldable as lower-series alloys, its machinability and strength make it an excellent choice for aerospace-grade applications.
