Phehlukwayo Metals was a well known manufacturer and suppliers in Cape Town, South Africa, manufacturing high-quality industrial metal products. Demonstrating an ability to achieve top quality, their range of metal products included, among others the very popular High Speed Steel (HSS) T4 bars whose strength, long life, great wear resistance properties, and efficiency in cutting them made them valuable for demanding processes in machining as well as industrial manufacturing. Phehlukwayo Metals puts a strong focus on customer satisfaction and reliable delivery, ensuring clients receive premium materials tailored to their specific needs while supporting industries such as engineering, automotive, and tool making.
High-Speed Steel T4 bars contain tungsten, chromium, and molybdenum in the main percentages of 18-22%, 4-5%, and 1-2%, respectively. Other constituents include vanadium at 1.75-2.25%, carbon at 0.70-0.80%, and manganese at 0.30-0.50%. Such a composition allows for high hardness, resistance to wear, and the ability to resist high temperatures during cutting. The material typically has a Rockwell hardness of about 62-64 HRC and strength at elevated temperatures, which makes it suitable for machining tools and cutting applications. T4 bars exhibit good toughness and impact resistance. They can, therefore, be used for the production of high-performance tools applied in demanding industrial environments.

High Speed Steel T4 bars are sized by diameter and length, typically ranging from 1/4" to 10" in diameter, with standard lengths of 12 to 20 feet, depending on manufacturer specifications.
High Speed Steel T4 bars and rods are manufactured through alloying, melting, forging, and heat treatment processes, followed by precision machining to achieve desired hardness, strength, and dimensional accuracy for industrial use.
High-speed steel T4 bars should be stored in a dry, clean environment, protected from moisture and corrosion. Store them on flat, secure surfaces to prevent deformation or damage.
High-Speed Steel T4 Bar is used in precision cutting tool manufacturing. It has great hardness and abrasion resistance, making it extremely useful in making drill bits, taps, milling cutters, reamers, and tool bits for working on hard material like steel or other metals. T4 bars are also used in the automobile, aerospace, and manufacturing sectors for making dies, punches, and other products that need a high resistance to wear and hardness at elevated temperatures. Their exceptional strength, toughness, and sharpness retention in extreme conditions make them suitable for high-performance cutting and forming applications.
