The Stainless Steel 347 Flat Bar is an austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel alloy that’s stabilized with niobium to prevent carbide precipitation and intergranular corrosion. Typically, its composition features 17–19% chromium, 9–13% nickel, along with trace amounts of niobium and tantalum. This material boasts impressive mechanical properties, including high tensile strength (around 515 MPa), good yield strength (205 MPa), and remarkable oxidation resistance up to 870°C. It maintains toughness and hardness even in extreme conditions, making it perfect for high-temperature and corrosive environments.

The primary alloying element in Stainless Steel 347 is niobium (Nb), which stabilizes the material against carbide precipitation during welding and high-temperature exposure. This enhances its resistance to intergranular corrosion and improves its overall high-temperature strength.
Stainless Steel 347 is most suitable for applications in the temperature range of 800°C to 1500°F (427°C to 815°C). This range allows it to maintain its strength, corrosion resistance, and stability, particularly in high-temperature environments like furnaces.
Typical dimensions of a Stainless Steel 347 flat bar range from 0.25 inches (6 mm) to 6 inches (150 mm) in thickness and 1 inch (25 mm) to 12 inches (300 mm) in width. Custom sizes are also available.
You’ll find the Stainless Steel 347 Flat Bar widely used in industries that demand heat resistance and corrosion protection. Common applications include exhaust manifolds, boiler casings, furnace parts, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and chemical processing equipment. Its superior strength at elevated temperatures makes it ideal for aerospace, power generation, and oil and gas sectors. Plus, it’s frequently utilized in food processing and pharmaceutical equipment due to its hygienic properties and ease of fabrication. The alloy’s excellent weldability and long-term stability make it a dependable choice for challenging structural and mechanical applications.
