A stainless steel round bar and rod contain iron, chromium in a range of 12-30%, nickel in a range of 0-20%, and molybdenum in range of 0-5%. Chromium prevents corrosion resistance, while nickel improves ductility and toughness. Molybdenum provides resistance against pitting and crevice corrosion mainly in chlorinated environments. Carbon levels vary from 0.03-0.08% which also determines the hardness and strength of the alloy. It further contains manganese as 0.5-2% and silicon as 0.5% for improved tensile strength along with weldability. The good mechanical properties for stainless steel consist of high tensile strength reaching to 1000 MPa along with good resistance to fatigue besides it being durable under elevated temperatures that makes it more suitable for diverse industrial applications.
